...No
one is born as street kids in the real sense of
the word.
It is the society and the evils of the systems that shapes
the children into street children… |
|
|
The term street-children refers to those children
for whom the street has become a home more than
their family. There are many reasons behind this
phenomenon of street children. Poverty,
broken families, neglect of parents, lack of opportunities
for quality education, natural
calamities, increase in the incidence of life threatening
diseases like HIV etc. are some of the
ostensible causes of this issue. All these are the
by-product of neo-liberal globalization, privatization,
rapid industrialization and mechanization that produce
unemployment |
 |
| and
poverty. This has resulted into social unrest causing
family crisis and breakdown resulting into the increase
of street children.
|
 |
It is estimated
that India has about 350
million children out of its population
of one billion. The research reveals that
there are about 20
million street children in
India. In Mumbai alone there
are about one lakh of these street children
fight for their survival on her railway platforms,
streets and pavements. |
